Samuel West is an actor and director, known for his work on ‘Howard’s End’, ‘Van Helsing’ and ‘Notting Hill’. Outside of his very successful career Samuel is passionate about wildlife and the countryside, a passion that has been incredibly useful in Samuel playing his current role as a veterinarian in ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. He has been a serious birder for around 15 years, when Samuel was artistic director of the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and used nature as an antidote to a stressful job. More recently, Samuel has made appearances on ‘Winterwatch’, and has written about birds for British Trust for Ornithology.

Samuel has chosen to champion The Woodpecker, depicting the lesser spotted woodpecker; least common of the UK’s three woodpecker species. 100 signed A4 woodpecker prints are available, with 50% of the sale price donated to The British Trust for Ornithology.
